Flash back with me to November of 2008. Our youngest son, Nate, was three months old. Ryan and Will, our two oldest boys, were three and two years old. I was two years into pastoring NewLife, and my wife Michele was working as she was able to help make ends meet. Naturally, Michele told me that she thought that the time was right for us to go through training to become licensed foster and adoptive parents through the state of Connecticut.

One of the greatest realities of the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, is that those who trust in Him and have been saved are adopted into the family of God, becoming children of the Heavenly Father, full heirs of all that belongs to Him. Consequently, one of the greatest ways we can preach the gospel to the world is through following our Father‘s example and becoming people and families who adopt others. The following is reprinted from the February 2, 2010 Pulse. This Sunday, we will be sending a team of missionaries down to Haiti. Haiti, a country that was already impoverished, was made much more so by the January 2010 earthquake. The post below, written by Albert Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, recounted a story that took place in the Haitian earthquake.

This coming weekend is an annual weekend of prayer for children in foster care in the state of Connecticut (see bellsofhope.org for more information). Obviously, there are many important and heart-breaking issues and causes in this world, and it is impossible to participate in every single one. For my family, foster care and adoption has been one that we have chosen to become involved in, out of our desire to provide a home and a family for children who may not have one of their own. We opened our home to our first foster daughter, Joanna, four years ago, and eventually adopted our son Jordan because of our involvement with the Department of Children and Families.
